Biggest Loser registration starts Friday in Florence
FLORENCE, S.C. – Registration for the United Way of Florence County’s 2018 Biggest Loser competition will open Friday.
This will be the fifth year of Florence's County Burn and Learn Initiative that provides fitness training, nutrition, accountability and other fun activities to individuals who want to lose weight or make healthy lifestyle changes.
The competition offers prize money to top contestants and raises money for the United Way.
Only 60 competitors will be accepted this year.
The registration fee is $185. That cost includes a 10-week membership at the McLeod Health & Fitness Center, group trainings, nutrition counseling and several events.
The kickoff event will be held on Jan. 16 at McLeod Health & Fitness. Initial weigh-ins will be held on Jan. 17 or 18 at McLeod Health & Fitness. Weekly weigh-ins will be held each Thursday, starting Jan. 25, at the United Way office.
The finale will be held on March 29.
Four prizes will be offered:
>> Biggest Loser – weight loss: The contestant who has the greatest percentage of weight loss at the end of the 10-week competition will be crowned the 2018 Florence's Biggest Loser in Weight Loss and will be awarded $500, courtesy of Health Facilities Credit Union.
>> Biggest Loser – inches lost: The contestant who has the greatest percentage of inches lost at the end of the competition will be crowned the 2018 Florence's Biggest Loser in Inches Lost and will be awarded $500, courtesy of Health Facilities Credit Union.
>> The “True Grits” Award: The contestant who shows the most grit and perseverance will receive the 2018 True Grits Award and will win a shopping spree, courtesy of Belk.
>> The Fan Favorite Award: The contestant who collects the most votes at the end of the competition will receive the 2018 Fan-Favorite Award and win a six-month gym membership courtesy of McLeod Health and Fitness.
