On Thursday, January 12, 2012, the United Way of Florence County welcomed the newest addition to their Florence family, a huge cement truck that can weigh up to 80,000 lbs. when filled! The cement truck featuring the United Way logo is part of the “Driving with Purpose” outreach program of Concrete Supply Co., located locally on S. Irby Street and headquartered in Charlotte, NC. Heyward McKenzie, the driver of the newly painted United Way cement mixer, visited with the United Way of Florence County staff on Thursday to pick up flyers about the organization and learn more about their initiatives. As part of Concrete Supply Co.’s efforts to support the communities in which they are located, Mr. McKenzie will act as a mobile advocate for the United Way, helping to teach others about the non-profit’s efforts and impact.
The United Way of Florence County was chosen by the local branch of Concrete Supply Co. as the non-profit they wished to have featured on one of their trucks. The truck, which arrived in Florence earlier this week, will be placed into daily service immediately.
